When getting to Punta Tombo, you will be in a Fauna Nature Reserve; it was declared a place of tourist and ecology interest by the government of Chubut province in 1979. This means it is an area protected by strict laws, the main purpose of these laws is to protect the enviroment and the wildlife. This includes the respect for the flora and fauna of the place, the care for the hygiene, the instructions of the rangers and the signs.

The infrastructure of the Nature Reserve is located far from the rookery in order not to cause damage to the enviroment. Visitors may use them, and later walk through authorized paths, watch the penguins closely and enjoy their individual and social behaviour. Although the penguins are peaceful, they must never be touched, bothered or be subject of something that does not belong to their enviroment, since they can defend themselves by hurting.
